About The Varieties:

Experience The Varieties – inspired by Preston’s Will Onda and artist Harold Offeh’s work and featuring work from 10 regional and national artists.
This exhibition invites you to experience the galleries in a new way, inspired by Preston impresario, acrobat, clown and filmmaker Will Onda and the work of Harold Offeh.

Playing with the conventions of 19th and 20th century variety theatre, The Varieties features work by:
Harold Offeh, Jonathan Baldock,
Mark Bleakley, Andrea Booker,
Stuart Edmundson, David Mackintosh,
Mexico (Simon Boase, James Maxfield, Zoe Sawyer),
Erkka Nissinen, Florence Peake and Sean Penlington.

The Varieties is co-curated by Harold Offeh and Clarissa Corfe.

The Varieties launches our ambitious contemporary art programme for 2015/16, Dance First, Think Later. Inspired by the quote by Samuel Beckett, the programme features commissions from some of the most exciting contemporary artists working today and group/solo exhibitions from emerging and renowned UK and international artists.

About Offeh:

Harold Offeh born in Accra, Ghana is an artist who works in a range of media including performance, video, photography and interactive and digital media, employing humour as a means to confront the viewer with an assessment of contemporary popular culture. He studied at the University of Brighton and the Royal College of Art, London.

Recently Offeh has approached the themes of service and Afro hair culture through collective live engagements with other artists, performers and community participation. He has shown widely both in the UK and abroad.

He lives in London and works in Leeds where he is a senior lecturer in Fine Art at Leeds Metropolitan University. His recent exhibitions include: In your face, Showstudio.com, London (2012); Glamourie, Project Space Leeds (2012); Garden of Reason, Ham House and Gardens, Richmond (2012). (text website Offeh)
