An American Painter, 2016.

About exhibition:

Michelangelo Lovelace is one Cleveland’s great stories. He grew up on the streets of Cleveland’s inner city. He made it through countless challenges, always relying on one thing to keep him going – art. We are proud to present the latest work by this Cleveland Arts Prize winner.

Justice for all, 2016.

As an artist, Michelangelo has always portrayed the life he knew. Depicting inner city life is not easy, especially when it is autobiographical. Michelangelo’s experiences are directly translated to the canvases he paints on. With a heavy hand and a light heart he skirts that fine line to tell the truth about Cleveland and the people in it.

‘We The People’ is born out of Michelangelo’s concerns and occasional fears about where our country is headed. As he works he listens to the news and uses the emotions he gains from those stories to influence his latest work. As the RNC arrives in Cleveland, Ohio, his work has never been more timely.

About the Artist:

With over 25 years of artistic acrylic on canvas painting, Michelangelo Lovelace, Sr. has touched many lives depicting his perspective of urban life. His work has also inspired collectors and curators throughout the region.
