About:
Nicolaas Porter (1952, The Hague, mixed parents)is a poet , writer and photographer living and working in Surinam. He studied photography in Utrecht and Paris. He works with camera, computer and an advanced editing program.
“Especially Rembrandt is my role model. He was a master at dealing with light; a photograph is actually all about light.”
“I want to show something that makes people happy. On the other hand, however, because it is also a theme that keeps me very busy, I want to confront the viewer with decay, disease and death.”
“If I make a portrait of someone, there must be a collaboration between me and the other; a kind of click, otherwise I cannot make it. The person can indicate how he wants to be portrayed, but what he wants must be true, consistent with his personality. In portraying I’m a very real realist and I want to show the truth. ”
To me all art is about having a vision and to get really connected to myself and the world around me. We all share one important fear : the fear we are alone in our self created universe!
That’s why I make my photographic ‘cropcircles ‘ Glad I can share them with this select Image Creative Universe !
