Born in 1974, Luanda, Angola at 12AM. Son of Maria Illoisa Silva and Emidio Da Cruz Barbosa Andrade, the second child after my sister Paula. My father gave me the name Alexandre Carlos Da Silva Barbosa Andrade, because at that moment he was reading the book Alexander the Great, he told me. After Cape Verde being independent from Portugal in 1974 we went back to my parents land. I had the privilige to grow up in liberty, on an island where nothing happened en everyone trusts each other. After high school and the Lyceum I started to realize that the freedom of living on an island literal restricted me. The curiosity towards the other side became big. The 28th of June 1993, I went to the Netherlands and studied at the Willem the Kooning Academy in Rotterdam. At this moment I live and work in the Netherlands ánd Cape Verde; at my island I found again the challenge I was looking for.
