David Bade (Curacao, 1970) is an acclaimed and versatile artist and art educator. After his graduation from ‘The Ateliers’ his career took flight with the solo exhibition ‘Couplet’ at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam. He won the 1993 Prix de Rome for drawing and the 2010 Sikkens Prize.

He is currently well known for the ‘ArtMen’ tv- series, an art programm he presented together with the artist Jeroen Krabbé , and for his work in Curacao, where he initiated the Instituto Buena Bista – together with Tirzo Martha – a platform for contemporary art and education.

‘Less is a bore’ is the motto David Bade used for one of his exhibitions, and it exemplifies his art style. Bade creates drawings and paintings, as well as large installations and sculptures. He presents complex assemblies of 2D and 3D works, using various materials such as styrofoam, plastic, wood and waste. He is socially conscious, humorous, expressive and exuberant, challenging the viewers’ imagination.
