Glenn Ligon is nominated for the Mario Merz Prize.
On January 29, 2015 the works of the finalists shortlisted for the first edition of the Mario Merz Prize will be presented to the public: At 6 pm the Fondazione Merz in Torino (Italy) hosts the opening of the exhibition featuring the work of the 5 finalists in the Art Section.

Curated by Beatrice Merz, the exhibition unfolds on two levels of the Fondazione and features two or more of the most significant works, among videos, installations, drawings and sculpture, by each of the shortlisted artists.

The finalists in the Art Section, Lida Abdul, Glenn Ligon, Naeem Mohaiemen, Anri Sala and Wael Shawky were selected among hundreds of nominees– with 313 nominated artists from 65 different countries and from all five continents– by jurors of the pre-selection panel Claudia Gioia (independent curator) and Beatrix Ruf (director Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam) and Marisa Merz.
Members of the Final Jury for the Art Section are: Manuel Borja-Villel (director Museo Nacional Centro de arte Reina Sofía, Madrid), Massimiliano Gioni (Head Curator New Museum, New York – Art Director Fondazione Trussardi, Milan), Lawrence Weiner (artist), and Beatrice Merz. The public will have the possibility to participate in the voting process by logging onto the website, www.mariomerzprize.org or by filling out the voting card provided.
