Hamid el Kanbouhi (1976, Larache, Morocco) employs various media to transform commonplace elements into immersive and fantastic worlds that incorporate performance, installation, and painting. These worlds stem from drawings which spatial realization often wrong-foot the viewer, converting passive bystanders into active participants.

In his installations, El Kanbouhi turns everything upside down: the delicate rules and safe codes of the art world, the traditional rules and habits of another culture, the assumed difference between high and low culture. He confronts the viewer with his trend sensitivity and, more important, with his hypocrisy.
