Statement:
For me painting and stich work explores ideas of figures having an authoritative submissiveness while raising questions about the impact of hip-hop culture, black culture , and heterosexual culture. Beauty, sensuality, pain and anger are cathartic components of my work in relation to homosexual black male identity which is the primary focus and interest of my work. The flesh is a dangerously beautiful concept that is conveyed through confrontation and pulls from the exotic or unknown. “The Other” influences my work greatly through subject matter and how it manifest through material that operates between domestic and erotic tension. Voyeurism, minstrelization, and suspicion are a mode of directness and ambiguity for the viewer to engage with
