“From the autobiography to the Art.
For me, Aruba signifies my first outing as an artist. That was in 1999.
From that moment until now, I realize my work as an artist from these Islands, even though I only settled in Aruba in 2003.
I can no longer consider myself an outsider, after having founded a Dutch/ Aruban family.
Being an Immigrant enabled me to view the theme of borders, using it as an interesting line, to make contemporary art.
In the passing of time, there were many borders that I had to cross and in the development of my artwork there are many frontiers to explore, “Identity Pills” is one of these.
The state, defining it as a delimited geographical piece, is the macro concept of the property, where each one of us counts as a valuable part of that property, just like the farm animals, as an example of a micro property.
The project “Identity Pills” is the ritual of income for the grand farm. The idea is to create contemporary artwork which allows me to approach the Dutch culture.”
