My fine art photography is heavily influenced by ideas that question what it is to be human. Whilst growing up in South Africa I have been exposed to many different cultures, since living in the UK I have become disillusioned by mass consumer culture and western society. This has led me to question my own identity and that of humankind. My work acts as a conduit for my personal philosophy.
My work also includes quasi-photographic imagery, achieved by working in post production and combining other art forms/processes such as sculpture, drawing, painting and digital manipulation; in turn giving the post production process an importance which makes it integral to the work. The reason I choose to use primarily photography is because it carries an inherent false sense of realism and truth that when manipulated in a certain way, can really question our perceptions of what we think is real.(copyright: Rudi geyser)
