Wardell Milan is in the groupshow ‘The Confident Line’ in the David Nolan Gallery New York, until March 14 2015.
Recipient of 2014 Foundation for Contemporary Arts grant, Milan has mounted solo shows at Louis B. James Gallery (New York, NY), 404 Gallery (Naples, Italy), Studio Museum in Harlem (New York, NY), Savannah College of Art and Design (Savannah, Georgia), and was included in group shows at the Institute of Contemporary Art (Philadelphia, PA), the Warhol Museum, (Pittsburgh, PA) and White Columns (New York, NY). Recognized for his artistic gifts from an early age, Wardell Milan has had his own studio since the age of four. During his graduate studies at Yale University (MFA 2004), Milan, focused primarily on photography, began to develop his interest in drawing, collage, and three dimensional dioramas. His most recent exhibition, Show (Untitled) Parisian Landscapes, at OSMOS Gallery in New York, consisted of large-scale sculptures, photographs, and drawings, using the gallery as a space to “workshop” ideas, allowing the audience to witness the creative process and interact with the work in a direct way. Using symbols of beauty and glamour, violence and mortality, public figures and the superhuman, Milan engages our fictional approach on beauty, intelligence or athleticism as ‘indestructible’.
