Yosef Lule is one of the artists in ‘Addis Calling’, a group exhibition in the new gallery of Addis Fine Art, Addis Abeba, Ethiopia. From January 9 on.

Yosef Lule was born in 1977, in Assela, Ethiopia. He graduated in 2001 from the Addis Ababa University School of Fine Art and Design. Following his graduation Lule became one of the founding members of the Habesha Arts Studio – a working studio and exhibition space for artists.
Urbanisation and its effect on individual people is a current theme in the work of Yosef Lule. The transformation of Addis Ababa, the pressure on the city’s resources and the migration of people to the capital are ideas explored in his paintings. Lule compositions also question whether a balance can be achieved between the positive and negative aspects of urban growth.
Recent solo exhibitions include Abstraction, Habesha Art Studio Gallery, Addis Ababa (2011), Sous le ciel, Mediatheque Alain Lorraine, La Reunion, France (2010), Atmosphere, Alliance Ethio-francaise, Addis Ababa (2010) and Beginning, National Theatre Art Gallery, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia (2009). His work has featured in group exhibitions including Addis Contemporary at the Circle Art Gallery, Kenya (2015), Past and Future, Alliance Ethio-francaise, Addis Ababa (2014), Habesha Art Collection, National Museum, Addis Ababa (2014) and Art of Ethiopia, Sheraton, Addis Ababa (2009-2014).
