Toyin Loye, Nigeria
Untitled, 2013.
About:
Growing up within a traditional royal house in Ijebu-Jesa, Toyin Loye studied Fine Art at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-ife, Nigeria. Across his international milieu, Loye is considered a modern representative of the ancient tradition of African art, and a committed propagator of his cultural heritage. This largely echoes in his poetry, which is often integrated into his paintings. Loye’s practice spans photography, drawing, sculpture, and painting, employing materials and techniques not as a culmination in themselves, but as a conduit he can freely experiment through.
He has presented extensively in both solo and group exhibitions in Nigeria, Senegal, Argentina, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, Australia, Germany, Spain, Norway,Belgium, the US, the UK and the Netherlands.
